The Story
The Darfur conflict has become the latest chapter in Sudan's civil wars, displacing over 2.5 million people and killing over 200,000 people. With such urgency, the question emerged, "How can we get people to participate and become aware of Darfur?" Participant Productions came to THE_GROOP in need of a website for their documentary film Darfur Now. Supplementing the look and feel of the existing campaign, the website needed to raise awareness about the region's recent internal strife. We needed to design a product that engages and encourages users to take immediate action on the site.
The Results
THE_GROOP addressed the overall architecture of the product and decided to pare it down to the essentials. The entire experience was designed to provoke an emotional connection to the issue.
Collaborating with Participant's content and technology teams, we provided users the ability to create their own video messages in a simple and effective manner. These user-generated video messages spread virally raising awareness about the conflict.
Strategically placed videos of celebrities and politicians helped to increase the public awareness of the project ensuring the enterprise's success.
